January 15, 2020 - The Denver Business Journal's The State of the Cities: Mayors Forum
Thank you to those who attended the Denver Business Journal’s the State of the Cities: Mayors Forum on January 15, 2020. We were delighted to see mayors from the Denver metro area speak candidly on key issues facing Colorado today. These issues ranged from transportation and infrastructure to energy, gentrification and education. The panel included Mayor Mike Coffman of Aurora, Mayor Michael B. Hancock of Denver, Mayor Jan Kulmann of Thornton; and Mayor Adam Paul of Lakewood. Setting the tone for the discussion was keynote speaker, Alison Felix, Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City, and our very own Kristin Strohm, President & CEO of Common Sense Policy Roundtable.
A theme that ran throughout the morning was a need for long-term and sustainable policy solutions. Felix spoke about the changes over the last decade to the state labor markets and population growth. We learned that Colorado can expect to add 6.6 million citizens by 2030. It is evident that Colorado will need to consider policy solutions that will accommodate the influx in population and consider the impacts policies may have on future generations.
